Andrew Goatman classes

Hi my classes are based up at Dartmoor zoo, Plymouth using the ponies and other animals they use as feed for big cats. I have built a small abattoir in the zoo and I have made a viewing area at the back which you can watch through glass. It was designed for schools but has been so popular with people especially the pony owners as it gives a real insight into how a horse or pony works and how things go wrong and hopfully how to prevent some of them. The ponies are normally from the Dartmoor Pony conservation system or pet ponies that the owners want them to be "used" rather than burnt and are happy for others to learn from their animal. Please note that animals are not killed at the zoo because of welfare issues and always put down on their farm or origin. I've added the classroom session first to give some background to help with what your about to see and there is always a question and anwser session at end in which anyone can ask questions about any part e.g welfare, slaughter methods, conservation, anatomy etc.
The money I charge goes to supporting the future of the Dartmoor pony. If you wish me to cover a particular topic i can and will always help. If we can learn from the death of a animal and use it to save others all the better

Volunteers desperately needed!!!!! Does your horse get stressed when being shod or foot trimmed??? Is it being shod twice between now and January????
Would you like to try out a new product designed to reduce stress in horses????

I am a final year veterinary student at the Royal Veterinary College and I’m looking for horses to take part in my research project.
I am trying to find out whether a commercially available nutraceutical marketed to reduce anxiety in horses decreases levels of stress responses when horses are being shod/food trimmed.
I will compare the effect using a questionnaire on the horses behaviour at one shoeing using the nutraceutical and another shoeing/foot trimming using a placebo.
If you are interested in taking part and helping me please contact me via email and I can send more information

e-petition

Increase Public Bridleways to equal Public Footpaths

Responsible department: Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

To acitively promote and encourage the development of new public bridleways for the safe off road use of mainly horse riders, but also cyclist and pedestrians. Currently the national network of public rights of way consists of 91,000 miles footpath; but only 20,000 miles of bridleway, 2,300 miles byway and 3,700 miles restricted byway (source: Natural England web site). The creation of public bridleways (20,000 miles) up to the same level as footpaths (91,000 miles) will reduce road accidents/fatalities (see www.horseaccidents.org.uk/) while promoting healthy outdoor activity and safe use of the countryside for all ages/sex.

 Kids See if you can find Tufty the pony on this site.

Each month I will 'hide'       He's hidden again!

DOGS

Dog walkers may find the site of use as there is a section on favourite rides which you can obviously use. Also, when there is a dog show held in conjuntion with a horse show, I have listed the details in the Calendar, see left.  I'm also putting dog shows on the Dog Page when they aren't held in conjunction with a horse show.  On the walks  I try to put in 'pit stops'  ok, loo stops for humans but we live in North Devon so lets be sensible about this, they are few and far between.

If anybody has a dog that needs rehoming, puppies for sale or you are looking for a certain breed. email me the details by using the Contact Us page.

 DO YOU LIKE PONY VIDEO'S?

 On poniesdevon we have a few pages dedicated to our gorgeous ponies.  One is our mascot, Tufty who is the naughtiest of the two, and Gin & Tonic - aka Ginty who is the lead mare and just a brilliant pony allround.

Tufty is forever getting into mischief and doing things he shouldn't.  He's a proper cheeky Dartmoor Hill Pony with that little glint in his eye that says "I'm bored, I'm going to be a pain" and is brilliant at embarassing you when you least want it to happen.  The day is never dull when Tufty is around.

```````````
Ginty is well aware that she's the bees knees and expects every other horse and pony around her to treat her like a queen.  On the other hand she is the most dependable pony and you can guarantee she will do anything asked of her so respects her human owners.
Gin & Tonic
 also  foaled in 2009 which was her first foal, Gin Floradora.
`````````````

Both pages contain every day happenings in the lives of Tufty and Ginty and photo's/video's that are taken when I happen to have my camera running.  Unfortunately I miss LOADS.

Note:  Flora's Frolics who is our beautiful foal by Ginty has her own page

And now we have Satins Story which will follow our purebred Arab mare being backed.  She is just 5yrs now (summer 2011) and is a beautiful rose grey with dark legs.  She is related to Cassie so is very special and just as gentle, stunning looking but so far, without the nuttiness!

TORSION SADDLES

As anyone who knows me will know, I love my Torsion saddle and would never go back to a 'treed' saddle.  I can't praise them enough and even after riding for up to 5 hours I never get a sore derriere.  My saddle is now something like 8yrs old and I still love it and feel so safe and secure.  I will be backing our new arab Lindance Satin in this saddle in June 2010 (now).  I wouldn't use anything else.

 To find out the benefits of riding in a treeless saddle, go to http://www.torsionsaddles.co.uk/ProductsTorsion.htm and don't forget to mention you saw the advert on poniesdevon
